gUIDELINES TO DETERMINE COURSE CREDIT VALUES

Mission Statement: The Continuing Education Committee (CEC) shall review all appropriate continuing education courses to maintain and improve Driller and Operator competency and improve the protection of the ground water resource.

 

Purpose: The following guidelines have been established by the Continuing Education Committee to provide consistency in evaluating courses and assigning a credit value to them for the purpose of fulfilling the education requirement of Section 42-238 Idaho Code.

 

Authority: The Idaho Ground Water Association has been delegated, by the Director of the Department of Water Resources, the responsibility of developing and operating the Continuing Education Program.

 

The Idaho Ground Water Association has appointed the Continuing Education Committee (CEC) to review and determine the credit value of training courses.  The final decision on the credit value of a training course shall reside in the CEC.

 

Credits Based on Length and Content of Courses:  The training courses that will improve the well drilling industry will be categorized by the content into one of six groups.

 

Group I – Comprised of courses that directly relate to well construction and the protection of the ground water resource, increase professionalism and business acumen.

Round Table on Above Topics

G.

Vendor Presentations

 

 

Group III – Includes the courses that do not fall into Group I or Group II that benefit the individual driller or operator in their professional development.

 

A.

Website Development

B.

Round Table on Above Topics

 

 

Group IV – Includes any miscellaneous courses that may be submitted for approval for credits.  Requires synopsis and proof of attendance.

Group V – Consists of attending conventions One credit allowed for each one attended.

Group VI – Specific approved courses and credits allowed per licensing period that do not require pre-notification to the Committee.  However, authentication of course must be submitted for credits.

 

A.

OSHA/OSHA HAZWOPPER eight hour course (four credits allowed)

B.

OSHA forty-hour course (eight credits allowed)

C.

Mud school forty-hour course (eight credits allowed)

D.

MSHA annual training, eight-hour refresher (four credits allowed) 

E.

All certified first aid and CPR four-hour courses (two credits allowed)

F.

IDWR GPS/Map Reading (two credits allowed)

 

 

The credit value of a course will be based upon the published agenda length of the training session and the subject matter group the training is within. Group I, Group II, and Group III courses will be evaluated to the closest ¼ hour and will be applied accordingly.  Groups IV, V & VI do not apply to this scoring as they have a set credit limit already approved.

 

Conditions

 

A.     One credit per licensing period required on Idaho Drilling Rules & Regulations.

 

B.     Only one credit allowed for same topic attended more than once at any one meeting.

 

 

C.     Requests for Continuing Education Credits need 30-day advanced notice to the Committee (except Group VI).

 

D.     A presenter will be allowed double credit for his/her presentation.

 

 

E.      In-house courses need prior approval (except Group VI)

1.      Consent to publishing in News Bulletin, Website or other media.

2.      Open to others in drilling industry.

 

F.      No post approval (except Groups V & VI).

 

These Guidelines may be amended on a quarterly basis.
