Minutes of the Convention Meeting of the Idaho Drillers Association Inc.

July 9 & 10, 1948.  Twin Falls, Idaho

The convention was called together by President Allen E. Hosack at 1:00 P.m. on July 9, 1948, at the American Legion Hall in Twin Falls, Idaho.    Mayor Lauterbach of Twin Falls gave an address of welcome to the sixty-five persons in attendance.

            W. B. Bowler, as Secretary-Treasurer, gave his report, a copy of which is attached hereto.

            H. C. Clare, Director of Public Health Engineering, Idaho State Department of Health, addressed the assembly on sanitation standards for water well construction.  He stated that wells should be constructed not less than fifty feet away from any source of contamination and that bacteriological and chemical analysis of water samples will be made by the Idaho State Health Department for any person without cost.  He stated that frequent sampling was important, that one sample is not enough and that public supplies should be sampled at least onece a month, and private supplies every three months.  Water samples should be collected in a sterilized bottle, which will be furnished by the State Health Department upon request.  Mr. Clare stated that after drilling a new well it should be first disinfected before testing for contamination.  He stressed that it was important to use safe water during the drilling process as it was very difficult to disinfect a well after contaminated water had been churned in during the drilling process.   All surface waters should at all times be directed away during the drilling.

On July 10, 1948 the Board of Directors met with the exception of Mr. Zinkgraff of Spokane.

After a discussion by the Board as to a time and place for the next meeting it was moved by Schoonover and seconded by Young that the next Directors’ meeting by held in Idaho Falls, Idaho, during the month of September.  A committee was formed to arrange the meeting place and the Board appointed Charles Cop, Chairman and J. J. Andrew, and such other members as they may select to complete this task.

It was moved by Cops and seconded by Bricker that the Association obtain metal tags that members can place on their machines showing that they are members of the Idaho Drillers Association.  During the discussion it was concluded that the tags should be metal to color design of a size about 4 x 6 or 4 x 10 inches.  The question being called for the motion was passed and the Secretary was instructed to inquire about the obtaining of such metal identification tags.  There being no further business to come before the meeting the same was adjourned
